Ingredient Spotlight

We’ve all picked up a tube of mainstream toothpaste at our local drugstore. It’s a basic household necessity, something we don’t even really think about as we place it in the same shopping cart as our organic produce and hormone-free chicken at our local big box store.

However, there is a lot more to mainstream toothpaste than meets the eye. Many of the ingredients found in mainstream toothpaste can actually have potentially dangerous long-term effects on our health.

We believe that anything you use to take care of your body should be held to the highest standard. If a healthy diet and active lifestyle is important to you, why shouldn’t your oral care products support you?

Our ingredients are carefully chosen and scientifically formulated to give you the healthiest smile possible, without any of the bad stuff. So, what do we leave out?

1. No Artificial Dyes or Preservatives

Artificial colorants have been linked to things like asthma, hives, and behavioral changes including depression. Furthermore, several common dyes use a chemical called benzene, which has been linked to tumor growths (Source). Artificial preservatives help prolong a products’ shelf life, but contain many chemicals that have been shown to cause allergic reactions, neurological problems, and cancer. (Source)

2. No SLS

SLS, also known as sodium lauryl sulfate, is a chemical often found in shampoo and other hygiene products. While the FDA considers SLS a safe food additive, anecdotal evidence suggests it can be a serious irritant. With research still ongoing, we place our community’s safety as our top priority and leave SLS off our ingredient list.

3. No Artificial Flavors

Synthetic additives have grown in popularity along with the rise in highly processed foods. However, evidence suggests that artificial additives can be harmful to your gut microbiome, especially for those with preexisting conditions such as Crohn’s disease. Damaged gut bacteria can lead to changes in metabolism and hormone regulation.

4. No Saccharine

Saccharine refers to artificial sweeteners found in many products, including mainstream toothpastes. Research in this area is ongoing, but a 2014 study showed that excessive saccharine may be harmful to your gut microbiome, increasing your risk for metabolic disorders.

5. No Animal Byproducts

Our toothpaste is completely vegan! We believe in a cruelty-free future, and therefore do not use animal byproducts in our toothpaste nor test on animals.

Your health is important to us. No matter where your journey takes you, we’re ready to meet you there with the resources for the best possible oral healthcare. Leave mainstream toothpaste and harmful ingredients in the past and move forward with a beautiful, healthy smile!
